A Time for Reflection
Here we are, halfway through the year and the perfect time to reflect on the year so far, taking time to do this helps to slow down the days and weeks so we appreciate everything that has happened. Reflection can be a very empowering process, it can help you to make sense of your day and the last six months. Reflecting can help you make decisions and set a course of action that can make improvements.
In January, I suggested that you set loose intentions for 2023, how are you getting on? Have you started on your list of things you would like to do, achieve and explore this year? If you haven’t, don’t worry, we are only halfway through, there’s plenty of time and no pressure to do anything. There is far too much pressure in our everyday life as it is but there is nothing wrong with putting your hopes and wishes on the job list too.
2023 has been very busy here at Helpmeorganics HQ, we have launched our Soy Wax Melts, Letterbox Gifts, Beach Candle and a beautiful gift box to celebrate our wonderful seasons in organic essential oil blends. We have been busy setting up our Small Market page which features small businesses across the country, we are passionate about supporting entrepreneurs, creatives, and small businesses so this is very exciting for us.
This year, we are very excited to have teamed up with Project Seagrass to help them continue their valuable work, maintaing and developing vital seagrass meadows and other marine eco systems around our island, we will donate £1 per “help me have some beach therapy” soy candle to them so by treating yourself to our new candle, you are doing you bit to rebuild our fragile sea beds.
Well, somehow it’s six months until Christmas. O my goodness, let’s enjoy each day in the bright sunshine, go paddling in the sea as much as possible, make daisy chains, and watch the clouds. Take lots of pictures to cover your fridge door to remind you of the fun you had this summer on the darkest of winter days.
July is Plastic Free Month, a fabulous initiative to reduce our plastic use, especially single use. There’s only one way to make supermarkets listen and that is if we continue to take boxes with us, our own bags, and don’t buy pre-packed fruit and veg. Recycle soft plastics at the supermarkets, it is then reformed into new plastic, not great but it is better than putting them in landfill, empty crisp packets, biscuit wrappers, etc can all be recycled in your supermarket. Even better than buying bags of crisps and biscuits, is to make your own and pop them in an airtight container.
At Helpmeorganics, our candles, wax melts, reed diffusers and aromastone diffusers are all 100% plastic free. I do struggle to find alternatives to the plastic dropper bung for the essential oil blends and constantly talk to our suppliers for the room spray and massage oil tops but the tops can be recycled with your plastic waste for now. As soon as I can find a good alternative, I will definitely jump at it. We have tried glass pipettes which work a treat when bought from our shop, but they do break in the post and perish over a short time.
And finally …
July is a wonderful month to slow down, be more loose, let your hair down a little. Just like our gardens, everything is wild and free which is so good for our stress levels.
Please remember to leave fresh clean water out for garden visitors. Shallow bowls for hedgehogs, bowls with pebbles for insects and bigger bowls for birds, badgers and foxes. We have water bowls at the front too, its amazing to see the visitors to it. In dry weather, if you have any old apples, pop them on your lawn and the birds will love the extra food.
I havent seen many butterflies this summer so far so please keep patches of nettles and brambles in your borders, at the back so you dont have to see them but they are where many butterflies lay eggs.
I hope you have a lovely month and we all look a little more sun-kissed by August! , Linda x
