How to live Mindfully

When you wash your hands, when you make a cup of coffee, when you’re waiting for the lift - instead of indulging in thinking, these are all opportunities for being there as a still, alert presence.
— Eckhart Tolle

Living life at a slower pace will help us relax and unblock our thoughts allowing us to become more present in our daily life. How many times have you gone for a walk, talked endlessly, mostly energetically, all the way and not noticed where you’ve been, what you’ve seen or heard? How many times have you been talking to someone, then become lost in your thoughts or searching for a response, meaning you cannot repeat what they last said? This is known as Mindlessness, or living on autopilot.

Being present is so important for the relationship with ourselves, family and friends, we deserve to allow our mind to concentrate on what is happening now. The pressure on daily life is intense, the promises we made to ourselves during the first lockdown, to spend time doing activities that are more important to our happiness, have all been forgotten. Hands up if you still have a regular family movie night, or lying on the lawn counting stars or having a board game evening with the kids, in most cases, we have become too busy again to notice that we have stopped.

It’s a brand shiny new year, full of potential, this gives us the perfect opportunity to assess our lifestyle and makes changes to our daily routine to allow for quiet time, times feeding our emotional self and, most importantly, being present. We want to show you how to include Mindfulness into your routine, this is also a wonderful activity to do as a family but it is essential to spend time alone, even if it means setting the clock 15 minutes earlier, you will find you benefit in so many ways.

Why is “have a mindful of calm” so special?

We have blended organic essential oils of Frankincense, Geranium Bourbon and Lavender to help you destress, unwind and soothe an anxious mind.

Frankincense is a resin from the Boswellia tree, considered to be a pure incense, it is called “King of essential oils”, It's sweet, woody aroma is sedative and enhances mood by diminishing feelings of stress and anxiety while improving concentration and memory. The main chemical constituents of the essential oil are Limonene, Pinene, Borneol, Farnesol, Phellandrene, Myrcene, and other constituents. Limonene demonstrates antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal properties. It is believed to reduce feelings of anxiety and to stimulate the immune system. Pinene is known to strengthen and invigorate the respiratory system and is reported to have diuretic properties based on empirical evidence. Borneol contributes tonic, anesthetic, sedative and anti-spasmodic properties to this oil. Farnesol is the component that allows this oil to reduce the user’s signs of aging by smoothing the look of wrinkles and increasing skin’s elasticity.

Geranium Bourbon has sedative, anti-anxiety, anti-depressant properties which all help to calm an emotional mind, the scent is fresh, floral and uplifting that promotes a sense of relaxation and enhances the feeling of wellbeing.

Lavender has many powerful properties, one of the main benefits of lavender is that it can calm without sedating which when blended with the other two essential oils , helps our blend relax, soothe and calm and help you to sleep.

So what is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we are doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what is going on around us. Jon Kabat-Zinn said that Mindfulness is the awareness that arises when we non-judgementally pay attention in the present moment. It cultivates access to the core aspects of our own minds and bodies that our very sanity depends on. Mindfulness, which includes tenderness and kindness towards ourselves, restore dimensions of our being. These have never been missing, just that we have been missing them, we have been absorbed elsewhere. When you mind clarifies and opens, your heart also clarifies and opens. Do you agree?

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, which is why we call it the present”
— Bill Keane

This can be done anywhere, for a time as long as you want to. It will help you to refocus and help you become mindful and present. During this exercise we notice things we are experiencing through all of our senses and bringing everything to our awareness, making ourselves present.

4 - Think about 4 things that you can feel - notice them and bring your attention to them

3 - Pick 3 things that you can hear - really listen and notice the small sounds

2 - Think about 2 things you can smell - breathe in and notice the small details of the smells

1 - Think about 1 thing that you can taste. Swallow and really focus on what it is that you are tasting.

Mindful Meditation

This is using music to boost your mood, create a reaction and develop a sense of peace. The music you choose is personal to you as it is strongly associated with memories. Think about a time when a song has played that just makes you want to sing out loud, or get up and dance, this music changed your mood for the better.

  • Choose a song that you know will help you to relax.

  • Get comfortable, close your eyes and take some deeper breaths, bring your attention to the music

  • Notice the sensations in your body, the vibrations, the rhythm. How is the music making you feel?

  • If your mind starts to wander, well done for noticing this, slowly bring yourself back to the present, to the song playing.

  • Allow the music to envelope you and enjoy the feelings that the music brings

  • You can stay in this moment for as long as you like.

Fill the air with the promise of longer days and fresh new beginnings
