Let yourself bloom June
The arrival of June begins the time of celebration, of feeling energetic, happy, and of enjoying the lightest month of the year, yes summer is finally here so its time to be outside, to eat fresh lighter foods, and to embrace everything summertime.
Have you noticed how lush the garden and countryside is? My garden is loving this warm weather with plenty of water, I am determined not to cut anything back but to delight in how relaxed my garden is. We need to learn from nature, allow our body to feel less controlled, release our mind and embrace this season. Yes, there are weeds but really, a weed is just a wildflower in the wrong place, the humble dandelion supports so many insects and the seeds feed goldfinches and house sparrows. Nettles provide the food and egg-laying sites for many UK butterflies so let them grow somewhere in your garden.
The practise of grounding is walking barefoot on the grass, many studies have found that this simple act helps us to heal, reduces our stress and inflammation levels and connects us to the world around us. Do you remember as children, lying on the grass watching the clouds, making shapes out of them? I remember doing this with my daughter and we had so much fun,, its a great way to spend half an hour or longer if you want to.
Scent in summer is everywhere, from the sublime floral fragrances, to the freshness of wet grass, our olfactory system is busy and it’s good for us. Happy chemicals flood our blood vessels, sending uplifting hormones to keep us relaxed. If you practise yoga, try it outside, maybe as dawn breaks. Summer is a time to feel free so let your plants be free too and let them bloom. I often take a book outside and relax for an hour or two after work, somehow this makes a busy day a small part of my time, and quietens my thoughts.
The summer solstice, or Litha, happens on the 20th June, the standing still of the sun. It is a time when the days are longest, you can celebrate the solstice in your own way. Its a time to enjoy, maybe greet the solstice with a sun salutation at dawn. And be grateful, for everything Mother Nature provides, maybe have a plant based meal, hopefully from your veggie patch, and add a few calendula, pansy and nasturtium petals to make it very special. Light a candle and eat outside, hopefully stay and watch the stars. The solstice is the perfect moment to release any negative emotions you are holding, simply take a deep breath, imagine the problem, worry and negative word, then as you exhale release it. Make a noise if you want you or just visualise them floating away. Take another breath and visualise happy warming universal energy being absorbed into your mind and body. Sit quietly and smile.
There is another date in June, 24th June is Mid- Summer Eve. It is a time for cleaning, opening your windows, bringing flowers into your home, dancing and singing. Mid summers eve is a time for celebration, merry making so invite your family and friends for a BBQ and enjoy this wonderful festivity.

Saturday 8th June is World Ocean Day. We donate £1 for each Beach Therapy Candle to Project Seagrass so they can continue protecting, restoring and expanding the vital seagrass meadows around the Uk and beyond.
Did you know that seagrass absorbs carbon dioxide by using photosynthesis and stores it in the sediment? Seagrass supports seahorses, sea dragons, octopus, baby fish, cuttlefish. Sea turtles only eat seagrass.
So, this World Ocean Day, go out and pick up litter along the sea shore, beach and dunes. Not going to the beach, do the same along your local river, stream and woodland. Lets protect our ocean, rivers and woodlands. They are truly very special places and vital for us.
