Winter Solstice

The winter solstice, or hibernal solstice, occurs on Saturday 21st December until Sunday 22nd December, when the sun is furthest away from the Artic Pole resulting in shorter days and longer nights. From this point, the Sun will return life to everything in nature, the days slowly become longer and lighter, this is the celebration during the Winter Solstice, the return of the light.

We have created a letterbox, filled with products and information to help you celebrate the solstice and look forward to brighter days ahead. The solstice is also a time to reflect and to look forward, so set your intentions and be grateful for everything you have and will enjoy. The winter solstice is a good time to release upets, old habits and to feel a new beginning. Its time to embrace the darkness until the light returns.

Our Top Ten Tips to enjoy November

  • November is the last month of Autumn. Try and be outside as much as possible, the daylight hours are key for your body to produce vitamin D, morning is best so a walk would be ideal or sit outside having your morning cuppa. When you do go for a walk, kick the leaves as you walk, this will make you giggle but is exercise too. By kicking, you are exercising your quads and quadriceps muscles. Afterall, you are never too old to play in the leaves!

  • Eating a healthy balanced diet ensures that your body has all the nutrients it needs to keep you active and cold free. Soups comes into their own now. Drink plenty of water too, warm to hot if possible as this helps with your digestion.

  • Move as much as possible. This may be walking, dancing or going to the gym. Exercise releases endorphins into your bloodstream, they help with SAD (seasonal affective disorder) but don’t forget, we are nearly at the darkest part of the year, then we turn back towards the sun.

  • This will not come as a surprise, but by including essential oils into your home and workplace, you are accessing the many benefits of aromatherapy. From blends to help with sinus congestion, to help you feel calm and relaxed, to have a better nights sleep, feel happier and energised to blends to celebrate the winter, we have a blend for everyone and anytime.

  • Look after your skin through the winter by using a massage oil after your shower. The combination of jojoba, grapeseed and apricot kernel oil will ensure that your skin absorbs good healthy organic oils to keep your skin soft and supple.

  • Mindfulness is a really helpful therapy to keep you feeling uplifted and relaxed. Why not sit outside and listen to the sounds of nature, go for a walk through the forest and notice the falling leaves, change of colours and light. This not only connects you to nature but also allows your thoughts to slow and quieten.

  • Try a new craft. When we try something new, we are using a different part of our brain, the Hippocampus. This is really healthy for your brain, and you too

  • Have a good nights sleep. With the shorter days, it is really important to get sufficient daylight to help you sleep. You have a sleep/wake cycle which is governed by how much daylight you get in the morning, this triggers a receptor in your eye called melanopsin, this sends a message to your brain that its morning. Keep to the same bedtime routine, this will keep your sleep/wake cycle balanced. Keep your bedroom quiet, no stimuli, a nice temperature.

  • November is a good month to get the board games out and enjoy family time.

  • November is a wonderful month for stargazing. We are being treated with many opportunities to see the Northern Lights but just looking for constellations and planets is a good way to spend an hour or two
