What is love?

Love is a complex mix of emotions and also a blend of chemicals produced in our brains.  Dopamine, oxytocin, adrenalin, estrogen, and vasopressin are all hormones produced in the brain which create feelings of love, pleasure, excitement, and bonding.  When you are with someone you love or doing an activity that brings you joy, you are experiencing the feelings of Love.  Lust is a completely different emotion. True love means putting someone’s happiness before your own.

February is the month when we celebrate St Valentines Day. When you read about Saint Valentine, it’s a little grim but he was a Priest who had his life taken by the Romans. It was to celebrate his love of God that gave this day its meaning. So maybe spare a moment on the 14th to remember the "Valentine".

Anyway back to our question...What is Love? We are brought up that "loving ourselves" is vain but what’s wrong with having a nice view of the person we have become, I read somewhere that to "fall in love with yourself, is the first secret to happiness" Robert Morley

What is the difference between "self-love" and "self-care"

To take "care" of yourself, your health, happiness, and wellbeing is part of "self-love", by ensuring that you are in a good place physically and mentally helps you also care for others. That you feel strong and nourished, it is at this point, you will feel confident to learn new things, experiment with change (big or small). 

There are many ways you can take care of yourself;

  • Being grateful for the smallest things. Try and be grateful for 5 things every day, it’s so much fun to do and they will mostly be the small things. Include at least 2 about you

  • Training your brain to think positively is really uplifting, 

  • Spending time in nature is so beneficial for your well-being. 

  • Try and have a "digital detox" every week. The news is so depressing, I'm sure taking one day out of the loop can only help you

  • Exercise is a wonderful way to improve your feelings of self worth, there are so many apps (strava, couch to 5K) that help you

You can use essential oils to create a romantic, relaxed ambiance. In this blend, we have combined Palmarosa, Geranium Bourbon,  Ylang Ylang, and Lavender which are rich in balancing relaxing properties.

Do you struggle with "mind muddle" ?

Mind muddle occurs when your thoughts and decisions cannot flow naturally as a result of external factors. Remember the saying "a tidy home = a tidy mind"?

I know myself when my workshop is untidy, boxes everywhere, I find myself getting upset by issues normally brushed aside. When the Christmas decorations have overstayed their welcome, what a lovely feeling it is to tidy them away until the next year. When you have a clear space, your mind "un-muddles" and you can see the solutions to problems easier and clearer. So our advice to you, and us, is to spend time now *whilst we are inside much more) to tidy, sort and clean/paint our home and workplace. I know that once allowed out into the spring sunshine, sorting the cupboards will be the last job.  

On an energy front, in Feng Shui, a cluttered room/house prevents the natural energy flow causing stagnation of energy in corners.  Feng Shui practitioners suggest clapping in every corner to release the stagnated energy. You can use Tibetan cymbals too if you have them.

What’s happening in your garden

You will notice bumblebees emerging this month, the first signs of spring. If you would like to read how to help them through winter, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust has lots of information. Plant early nectar-rich flowers.

How lovely to see aconites, snowdrops, early crocus, and daffodils poking up in the winter weather, its a good idea to sit and observe your garden. We’ve already had frogs in our pond actively looking for love!!! The whole feeling is of a new beginning, we can take a lot of comfort from this.

February Vision Board Pack

We hope you found the January vision board pack helpful, have you found areas you want to work on, tweak? To spend a little time thinking about what makes you happy is good for the soul so this month its all about your happiness.

You will find in this month’s pack a “Red Heart”. There are hearts in our jar for you to write on with things that you love. Try and think of who and what you love, maybe add an image of that special person in your life, your family & friends. Add words, names, images of food, hobbies, songs, books. The list is endless but don’t forget to include you, add a few phrases of bits you “like/love” about yourself. One thing this past year has taught us is that we need people around us that we love, animals, nature, songs, books, drawings, plants, smells, warmth are essential to our well-being.
